Admission >> Application Procedure

1. Get MAAP scholarship application forms from any of the testing/filing centers, Naval ROTC units, or PCG stations nationwide.

2. Submit duly accomplished application form with the requirements to designated filing centers either by mail or in person.

3. Receive admission slip either by mail or in person.

Application Requirements

1. 2 copies of 2 x 2 colored pictures
2. Payment of non-refundable processing fee of
P 300.00 in cash or check/money order     payable to MAAP.
3. Photocopy of birth certificate
4. Photocopy of valid school ID or certification     from your principal/registrar, that you are a     bonafide or graduatingstudent with good     standing.
5. Two (2) pcs self-address stamped     (speedmail) envelopes

Admission Requirements

Applicants must pass/meet standards covering four stages:

1. MAAP Entrance examination inclusive of theaptitude/ emotional/ telligence/ personality/ Psychological/ neuro-psychiatric tests

2. Personal interview to be conducted by the BOA members

3. MAAP Medical criteria inclusive of physical, drug, lungs, dental, laboratory, audio test and color blindness test (ISHIHARA) test, visual acuity for far vision should be at least 20/30 and with one dose of Hepa B vaccine.

4. Orientation training for one month (May-June) inclusive of refresher classes in Math and English coupled with semi-regimental training.

seaman better quit their jobs(?)

A cadet on a maritime school aspires to become a good seafarer someday. With his learned knowledge he strives to embark onboard a ship in a good company. Working onboard the ship for more than 6 months even up to 1 year gives him a chance to upgrade his profession and for possible promotion as an officer. After a few years of working onboard the ship he suddenly decides to stop and start to work on land. Nobody knows the reason why.

Why choose to work at sea?

Many seafarers are like the example above. A lot of reason may contribute to a person’s decision of becoming a seafarer. I can still remember the question that my Captain asks me during my cadet days. “Why you choose to become a seafarer”? I give him a quick answer, “I want to become rich”. He said to me that if every seafarer would give the same reason that I did, it would be a selfish answer.

“The reason that we choose to become a seafarer is to give our family a better life and to encourage other mariners to become good at their job as a seafarer”.

Those are the humble words of the captain that I was lucky enough to serve with. The life onboard the ship cannot be compared on the life on land. We do our job in a more difficult environment. We seldom see the land. We expose ourselves to different kinds of weather. We see the same person every day. We work with different types of people in different countries. We work under pressure. So why choose to work at sea? It’s simply because we like the challenge and the adventure behind our work.

Why quit your job at sea?

Various reasons contribute to the seafarer’s decision of leaving the ship. A lot of person consider it personal or work related reasons. Here are 10 common reasons why they decide to leave the ship.

They were given a chance to work in a shipping company
They had a very bad experience onboard their previous ship
They had a problem with their wife that leads to divorce and could not handle the problem, which leads to the decision of stopping his profession as a seafarer
They manage to find an alternative job in land with almost the same salary of his job on the ship
They were given an opportunity to work on land related to shipping and maritime industry
Their wife and family doesn’t want them to work onboard anymore
They were homesick
A member of their family died while they are still onboard the ship and this became a very bad experience that they can never erase from their minds.
They started a business and became successful
They won in a lottery

Is there an option to work on land?

There are a lot of options that a seafarer can work on land and quit shipboard job. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can become successful. It’s the level of success that you desire that matters. You can read the stories behind the seafarers who decided to quit shipboard job onthis link.

Qualify yourself…..

1. Lakarin mo muna sa school mo ang iyong Diploma (B.S. Marine Transportation) together with your S.O. (Special Order) from C.H.Ed (Commision on Higher Education) at ang iyong T.O.R. (Transcript of Records). Puwede kang magpatulong dun sa incharge na Liason ng inyong school na naglalakad nito sa C.H.Ed para mapabilis ang processo.

2. Sumakay ng barko (pagkatapos malakad ang item no. 1) upang makapagipon ng gagastusin sa iyong pagkuha ng examination for O.I.C. na binibigay ng P.R.C. (Professinal Regulation Commision) at pangreview sa mga review center.

3. Fees to consider:
Examination Fee sa PRC : Php 2,500.00 more or less
Review Center Fee : 15,000.00 more or less
8 weeks reviewtransient 7,200.00 (at 120 pesos/day in 60 days)
meal 12,600.00 (at 70 pesos per meal 3 x per day in 60 days)SSBT with BRM : 15,000.00 more or less

—————Total Php 52,300.00

Sa makatwid you need to save at least USD 1,300.00 before you sign off.

A walk in examination is already implemented in P.R.C. “EVERY WEEK”. With this schedule kailangang makababa kayo ng barko at least 3 months prior the examination (that is kung kumpleto na ang lahat ng papeles nyo for item no. 1)

Now this is the key point na hindi alam ng iba….

If you fail the examination then RE-TAKE kaagad sa susunod na examination para hindi mahinto ang momentum nyo sa pagrereview.

Papano gagawin ito? Eh di yung budget na kailangan nyong maiuwi ay dapat triple ng expected expenses. Meaning kailangang makapaguwi kayo ng at least USD 5,000.00 dahil yung allotment nyo ay wag nyo nang asahan para naman makautang kayo sa inyong mga magulang kung nagkagipitan.

4. If ever you pass the examination….. sumakay ka ng walang kinukuhang training. Forget mo na munang lakarin ang iyong C.O.C. dahil siguradong di mo naman ito matatapos dahil sa kakulangan ng budget.

o Single and never been married and has no children out of wedlock;
o Free from being accused or convicted of any crime against the law and the state;
o At least 17 but not more than 22 years old upon admission (JUNE 01);
o (Note: applicant will be disqualified if he/she is already 22 years old before 01 June of the coming year.);
o At least high school graduate qualified to enroll in a four year course (if a High School senior, he/she may apply provided that the other requirements are eventually satisfied)
o At least 162.5 centimeters (5 ft. & 4 in.) weighs 55 kgs. (120 lbs.) stripped for male and 157.5 centimeters (5ft. & 2 in.) weighs 50 kgs. (110 lbs) stripped for female;
o Above average academic performance and preferably has taken Trigonometry in High School;
o Of good moral character
o Physically and medically fit for rigorous training
o Has never been previously enrolled in PMMA.
